We realise that this is pretty straight forward for most of us used to working with computers, but for many of us, it's all a little bit new and un-nerving. So ... if you'd like to get involved, but aren't sure where to start, then here's a pain-free, step-by-step guide to getting started Very Happy

    1. Have a look around! Check out the posts, different categories, people's comments etc. What happens when you click on different things - try it, it won't break anything! (If you end up somewhere you're not sure about, just click on the back arrow at the top of your browser)

    2. Ok, you've decided you'd like to register. Click on FORUM GUIDELINES in the main page, and then click on the post called PLEASE READ - Guidelines for using the Grapevine forum. Read through the information and if it all makes sense, and you agree with it, then lets carry on!

    3. The next thing I'd advise you to do, is read the FAQ's, found at the top of the page. Once you've done that, then you'll have a much better understanding of how this forum works.

    4. Now it's time to Register! Click on the Register button at the top right of the page. You'll be asked to read some registration terms - and, depending on your age (13 yrs and above or under 13 yrs) click on the appropriate wording.

    5. Once you've done that, a registration page will open with a whole lot of stuff to fill out. The top section is pretty straight forward - just fill in the required info, making sure to read the code carefully. (This stops computer generated SPAM getting into our forum and making a mess.)

    6. The next section is your profile information - things like ICQ Number etc. If you don't know what these are, then don't worry about it - just leave them blank. You can fill out a Website if you want - maybe your business site, or a personal site. You can also fill out your Location, Occupation and Interests. This just helps the rest of us get to know you a little better Smile . Of course, if you don't want to, you can leave these blank.

    7. The next part are your preferences. Here you can decide how you want your profile and posts set up. If you're not sure about it, just leave it alone. The default setting is probably the best way to go anyway. If you want more info, read the FAQ's.

    8. OK, all done? Just click on Submit and you're away! Now, you can't start posting until you've replied to an email we would've sent you. Once you click on Submit, an automatic email gets sent to your address to make sure you've told us the right information. This is also another way to protect this forum from dodgy people wanting to cause trouble. Just follow the directions on the email, and you'll be posting in no time!

    9. When you come back to the site, make sure you remember to login by clicking on the Log In button up the top (or the log in panel down the bottom). Just fill in your user name and password, then you can start posting - easy Very Happy

I hope this helps - give it a go and if you're having any trouble, please send an email to forum@grapevine.org.nz and we'll try to sort it out for you.

Thanks, Forum Admin
